CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Hanover baseball team suffered 12-5 and 11-1 losses in non-conference action at Thomas More (Ky.) Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers, who returned to non-conference action after 16 consecutive league games, fall to 8-24 on the season. With the wins, the Saints, who are currently second in the Presidents' Athletic Conference standings, improve to 18-16 overall.
In the opener, sophomore Spencer Coop (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Zeke Porta (Louisville, Ky.) each posted two hits, with each player also scoring once. Coop added a pair of RBI with a single up the middle in the top of the fifth.
Hanover also received a solo shot from sophomore Mark Walkenhorst (Fort Thomas, Ky.) in the sixth inning. Rounding out the scoring efforts for HC in the seven-inning contest was junior Sam Orem (Greenwood, Ind.), who drove in two runs in the final frame, on a double to center field.
The night cap saw the Panthers tally four hits over six innings of play, with junior Ty Stover (Galveston, Ind.) leading the way with a 2-for-3 effort. Stover also drove in HC's only run of the contest with a single to right in the top of the first. Coop, who led off the frame with a double to center, scored on the Stover base hit.
The Saints tagged the Panthers for a pair of three-run innings in the first and sixth innings to highlight their Game Two scoring efforts. Overall, Thomas More recorded seven offensive frames with multiple runs scored during the doubleheader.
Hanover will close out the 2018 season with a Senior Day doubleheader against Mt. St. Joseph next Saturday, May 5. The conference twin bill is slated for a 1 p.m. start at K. T. Young Ballpark.
