GREENCASTLE, Ind. – In his outdoor season debut, junior Joe Sheryak (Greenwood, Ind.) won the high jump to highlight Hanover men's track & field's performance at the DePauw Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Sheryak posted a height of 1.75m to take the top spot in the high jump, outlasting seven other competitors in the event. The junior also placed ninth in the javelin throw, recording a personal record distance of 40.35m.
The 400m hurdles saw a pair of freshmen athletes place in the top four. Alex Maldeney (Fort Wayne, Ind.) raced across the track in 59.42 seconds, which was good enough for third overall. Jordan Blankman (Monticello, Ind.) followed in fourth, clocking in at 1:00.00.
Maldeney was also a member of the 4x100m relay team that placed third Saturday. The sprint squad crossed the finish line in 43.97 seconds. Junior Darrell Payne (Indianapolis, Ind.), who also participated in the 4x100, placed ninth in the 400m dash with a time of 53.77 seconds.
Freshman Andrew Clegg (Indianapolis, Ind.) entered the first 1500m run of his outdoor collegiate career, coming in at 4:24.46. Sophomore Hayden Veach (Shelbyville, Ind.) also posted a sub-4:30 time in the event Saturday.
The Panthers will return to Greencastle, Ind. again next weekend, when they compete in the Indiana Division III Championships. Action is set to begin at noon next Saturday, April 14.
