Dennis leads volleyball to wins against Kentucky Christian and Millsaps

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Hanover volleyball team picked up a pair of neutral-site, non-conference victories Saturday afternoon against Kentucky Christian and Millsaps (Miss.).

GAME ONE (vs. KCU)

In the Panthers (11-11) opener against KCU, the team cruised to a three-set victory, winning 25-11, 25-19, 25-15. Leading the offense were senior Claire Dennis (Bloomington, Ind.) and junior Carlie Burson (New Salisbury, Ind.) with six kills apiece. Dennis added a team-high nine blocks, as well as three digs defensively. Burson was in on three blocks also.

Four Hanover players picked up double-digit assists, including senior Abby Crump (Indianapolis, Ind.), junior Ally Williams (Fountaintown, Ind.) and freshman Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.), who had 12 each. Sophomore Amber Miller (Louisville, Ky.) pitched in with 11 digs.

Crump went on to pace the Panthers in assists as well with 13. Ketcham followed closely behind with 12. Additionally, sophomore Emily Diehr (Greenfield, Ind.) had four of her seven blocks on the day against the Knights (10-16).

GAME TWO (vs. MILLSAPS)

The second contest played at Centre (Ky.) saw HC earn another 3-0 decision, this time by a count of 25-17, 25-10, 25-22.

The night cap saw another strong performance from Dennis, who tallied a team-high eight kills and seven blocks. Assisting in the offensive efforts were Chaney and junior Madie Snyder (Boonville, Ind.) with seven kills apiece. Chaney was also in on three rejections.

Again, the assist column was led by Crump and Ketcham, who combined for 30 of HC's 32 helpers in the match. Crump had a team-high 19, while Ketcham posted 11 assists. The two also combined for 14 digs.

Miller paced the backrow with 18 digs against the Majors (7-12). Williams had 17 digs, while freshman Emma Rolf (Lebanon, Ind.) added a career-high 10.

Hanover will look to continue its recent form when the team returns to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play next Wednesday, Oct. 17. The Panthers are slated to travel to Earlham for a 7 p.m. start.
