HANOVER, Ind. – Sophomore Eli Copner (Zionsville, Ind.) had a strong outing on the mound but took the loss in a 5-1 setback for the Hanover College baseball team against Centre (Ky.) on Wednesday.
Copner tossed eight innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits. The sophomore also struck out four batters but fell to 3-1 on the season. The loss drops the Panthers to 8-10 this spring.
Hanover was first on the board Wednesday at K.T. Young Ballpark, as senior Ty Stover (Galveston, Ind.) drove in the Blue and Red's lone run on a sac fly to right field. Sophomore Grant Larimore (LaGrange, Ky.) scored on the play after recording a one-out single earlier in the frame. Stover was the lone Panther with multiple hits, as he finished 2-2.
The Colonels (17-9) received a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the fourth to capture a 2-1 lead. Centre then added three runs in the top of the ninth for the 5-1 final decision. The Panthers had just three hits after falling behind in the fourth and finished the contest with six total hits.
Hanover will now return to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play when the team welcomes Earlham for a doubleheader, beginning at noon, Saturday, April 6.
