INDIANAPOLIS – After a nearly recording a triple-double over the weekend, sophomore men's basketball player Isaac Hibbard (New Albany, Ind.) was announced as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference player of the week Monday afternoon.
In Hanover's lone contest of the week, a 77-72 home win over Defiance last Saturday, the six-foot guard tallied 14 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. His rebounding and assist marks set new career highs, as he also became the first Panther in over a decade to record 15-plus boards in a single game. Hibbard's performance was also his second double-double of the season.
In the contest against Defiance, Hibbard scored or assisted on 34 of Hanover's 77 points, accounting for roughly 45 percent of the team's total. The sophomore was also a part of a scoring trio, along with senior Cam Fails (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman Zach Harp (Cincinnati, Ohio), that accounted for 55 of Hanover's 77 points.
After Saturday's effort, Hibbard leads the team in rebounds and assists per game, 7.1 and 3.7 respectively, while also ranking third on the squad in scoring at 10.2 points per contest. Hibbard's rebounding and assist marks rank second and sixth, respectively, in the HCAC. The sophomore has also tallied 10 or more points in all four conference outings this season.
Hibbard is receiving his first weekly conference award of his young collegiate career. The sophomore is also the third different Hanover player to earn the conference award during the 2018-19 campaign.
Hanover's win over Defiance improved the team to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in HCAC play. After the four-game early conference stretch, the Panthers are in a four-way tie for first place with Bluffton, Rose-Hulman and Transylvania.
The Blue and Red will wrap up the calendar year with a pair of non-conference games, as the team has already landed in California. Hanover opens the west-coast swing with a 5 p.m. (PT) – 8 p.m. (ET) – contest at Whitter on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
