Gesenhues Goal Sends Men's Soccer to HCAC Tournament FInal

HANOVER, Ind. – Senior Brady Gesenhues (Fort Thomas, Ky.) netted the go-ahead goal in the 45th minute to send the Hanover College men's soccer team to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Finals, 2-0.

With the win, Hanover moves to 12-5-1 overall on the year and will host the Tournament final on Saturday, Nov.  9. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.

The Panthers charged the Spartans from the opening kickoff wasting little time putting pressure on the goalkeeper as junior Brad Simpson (Allen, Texas) played a cross in the ninth minute that finished just high.

Sophomore Fernando Martin (Sao Jose Do Rio Preto, Brazil) got a great look on frame in the 17th minute that was saved in acrobatic fashion by the Spartan keeper.

The game-winning dagger came in the 45th minute as junior Ian Waldrop (Louisville, Ky.) found Gesenhues on a through ball for the go-ahead goal.

Juniors Myles Joseph (Lafayette, La.) and Ethan Miller (Breaux Bridge, La.) deemed clutch in the backline for the Blue and Red as the duo helped stifle the Manchester attack in the first half not allowing a shot on goal through the first 23 minutes of action.

Hanover tallied 16 shots, while Manchester mustard just one attempt through the first 45 minutes.

The second half saw the match get a little more intense as sophomore Evan Redmon (Louisville, Ky) and sophomore Luke Eppler (Evansville, Ind.) pelted the net with back to back shots in the 57th minute that were denied by the crossbar.

The Panthers would deliver the game's final goal in the 81st minute as junior Josh Hughes (Lafayette, La.) fired a shot from just inside the 18-yard box.

Hanover dominated much of the contest taking a game-high 24, with seven landing on frame.

The Blue and Red will play host to the winner of No. 2 seed Rose-Hulman and No. 3 seed Transylvania, game to be played later this evening.
