TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Hanover women's swimming team tallied a strong opening day of competition in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
The Panthers tallied 93 points following day one from the Vigo County Aquatic Center ranking them fourth overall. The preseason favorite Franklin currently sits in the top spot with 265.5 points followed by Transylvania in second with 115 points.
Earning a top mark with a second place finish was the 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Sydney Schulok (Cincinnati, Ohio), senior Megan Brandt (Guyton, Ga.), freshman Kelli Brock (Mooresville, Ind.), and freshman Ilys Anderson (Hebron, Ky.). The relay team swam the event in a time of 1:41.57 improving on their seed time of 1:42.57.
Freshman Megan Quinn (Richmond, Ind.) garnered top honors in the 500-yard freestyle taking fourth overall after qualifying with a third place prelim mark. The freshman completed the event with a time of 5:28.09, improving on her seed time by nearly 14 seconds.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Anderson claimed fifth with a time of 25.20 after qualifying with a sixth place mark in prelims. Schulok took seventh in the event while teammate Brock placed 11th overall in a time of 26.21.
The team of Brandt, freshman Liz Bolinger (Kendallville, Ind.), freshman Maddie Difilippo (Cincinnati, Ohio), and Schulok garnered a fourth place finish in the 400-yard medley relay to wrap up day one of competition with a time of 4:16.12 improving on their seed time of 4:20.45. The 'B" flight also saw the Hanover team of Brock, junior Meagan Miles (Nabb, Ind.), freshman Emelia Currin (New Albany, Ind.), and freshman Lindsey Hoskins (Columbia City, Ind.) touch the wall in 4:29.61 placing ninth overall.
Hanover returns to the pool tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. with finals slated for 6:00 p.m.
