DANVILLE, Ky. - The Panther volleyball team toppled the Colonels in straight sets (25-16, 25-21, 26-24) to improve to 9-5 overall Wednesday evening.
Hanover was led in the contest by sophomore Emma Rolf (Lebanon, Ind.) with a double-double in kills (12) and digs (12). As a team, the Panthers finished with a team-high 42 kills and .203 hitting percentage.
In the opening set, Hanover surged ahead 12-6 using a three point rally led by freshman Josie McClara (Jamestown, Ind.) and the Panther attack. Centre responded cutting the deficit to 15-11 before Rolf landed back-to-back kills extending the HC advantage to 19-11. Junior Brynn Durecki (Winona Lake, Ind.) would seal the set for the Blue and Red as she connected on a pair of aces that propelled the Panthers to the 25-16 win.
Centre jumped out to the 6-4 advantage before a service ace by sophomore Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.) knotted set two at 11-11. The two teams exchanged points for several serves when Ketcham and junior Emily Diehr (Greenfield, Ind.) landed a pair of kills that gave Hanover the 23-21 lead. McClara provided the set point behind the service line en route to the set two win, 25-21.
In the matches final set the two teams battled tough as Centre slowly chipped away at the Panther lead pulling within 20-19 following a HC miscue. They would later tie the contest before a pair of Colonel hiccups sealed the match, 26-24.
The team returns to action Friday, September 27 as they take on Wilmington. First serve is at 7:00 PM.
