HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College volleyball team enters the matchup with Mt. St. Joseph riding a four-game win streak after defeating Defiance in their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Opener, 3-2.
WEEKEND REVIEW: The Panthers had a block party this past weekend as they rallied back to defeat HCAC opponent Defiance (23-25, 25-16, 24-26, 25-20, 15-8). The Blue and Red finished the contest with a game-high 25 blocks, led by senior Carlie Burson (Corydon, Ind.) with a team-high nine blocks, including seven assisted. On the attack, freshman Adrianne Vance (Indianapolis, Ind.) continued her stellar season with a career-high 17 kills, while hitting .213 for the match. Hanover finished the afternoon hitting .135 with 53 kills.
LAST MEETING: The last time the Lions and Panthers clashed the Blue and Red fell 3-1 (17-25, 25-22, 21-25, 18-25). In the contest with Mt. St. Joseph, sophomore Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.) led the way with a team-high 11 kills and 19 assists. As a team, the Panthers hit .092 with 43 kills. The Lions tallied a game-high 53 kills, while hitting .163.
INSIDE THE STATS: Hanover enters the matchup 12-5 overall, 1-0 HCAC with a four-game win streak. The team has tallied 740 total kills, averaging 11.38 kills per set. Defensively, senior Ally Williams (Fountaintown, Ind.) is leading the way with 356 digs and 5.48 digs per set. Freshman Josie McClara (Jamestown, Ind.) is getting it down at the net for the Panthers ranking third in the HCAC in blocks per set (0.88).
SCOUTING THE LIONS: Mt. St. Joseph enters the contest 11-7 overall, 0-1 HCAC after dropping back-to-back contest this weekend with Franklin (3-1) and Mt. Vernon Naz. (3-1). As a team, the Lions have registered 679 kills, averaging 11.51 kills per set. Leading the charge is freshman Brooke Aselage averaging 4.22 kills per set. Defensively, freshman Brooklyn Brunner has posted a strong year with 271 digs, averaging 4.59 per set.
