HC Wins 11th Consecutive Victory Ball in Domination of Franklin

HANOVER, Ind. – The Blue and Red claimed their 11th consecutive victory ball win after defeating Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Franklin in straight sets (25-8, 25-18, 25-17) on Tuesday evening.

The Panthers (16-10 overall, 5-2 HCAC) dominated the match as they tallied a team-high 38 kills while hitting .226. Leading the charge for the Blue and Red was freshman Adrianne Vance (Indianapolis, Ind.) with a game-high 11 kills.

With all the momentum, the Panthers surged ahead early in set one as a four-point run led by senior Carlie Burson (Corydon, Ind.) and sophomore Maura Dankoski (Fishers, Ind.) gave HC the 5-1 advantage. The team continued to dominate as freshman Josie McClara (Jamestown, Ind.) made quick work at the net connecting for a Panther kill, 10-3. Burson would push the lead to double digits before teammate, sophomore Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.) found sophomore Emma Rolf (Lebanon, Ind.) for another thunderous blow, 20-6. Much like the start, Hanover rattled off the sets final four points for the complete domination, 25-8.

Burson dealt clutch early in set two as she teamed up with Dankoski to stifle the Grizzlie attack and tie the contest at 3-3. However, Franklin didn't waiver as they strung together a short run and pushed the advantage to 7-3. Hanover chipped at the lead using a kill from Vance and Rolf to knot the set at 11-11. The back and forth battle continued before another Vance kill forced a Franklin timeout and saw the Blue and Red jump ahead 18-15. Burson closed out the set with a perfectly placed kill down the line that sealed the set two win, 25-18.

In set three, the Panthers capitalized on a Franklin miscue that led to back-to-back kills by Rolf and Dankoski for the 7-4 advantage. The complete domination of the Grizzlies continued as freshman Meredith Deckard (Bedford, Ind.) provided a clutch kill before McClara placed a ball in the deep corner that gave HC the 16-7 lead. Franklin looked to get something going late as they pulled within 18-14 before a Dankoski strike halted the charge and secured the match. HC claimed the final set, 25-16.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, November 1 when they welcome Manchester to Collier Arena. First serve is set for 7 P.M.
